Educational Opportunities Program

Helping Students Thrive: supporting student development, celebrating student success

Academic Counseling

Each EOP student works with one of our counselors who has training and experience to guide students through the hoops and barriers that exist in college. Our counselors come from many educational and career backgrounds, so our staff has both the intellectual understanding and personal awareness needed to help students succeed.

Beaver Connect

Beaver Connect supports first-year and transfer students by connecting them to the OSU community for support and guidance in their first year. The program primarily serves students who identify as first in their family to go to college, low income, students of color, and of any underrepresented identity at OSU. New students who sign up are matched in teams with a peer mentor and a faculty member in an effort to create connections and help students find success during their time at OSU.

DREAMers and Undocumented Students

EOP regularly updates resources for students who identify as DREAMers and/or undocumented. In addition to resources for paying for college, knowing your rights and navigating university policies, we run the Dreaming Beyond Borders Resource Center to help students create community at Oregon State. Learn more about our resources and visit us in our center to make connections and receive support.

EOP Courses

Primarily, EOP classes are to help review or fill in gaps in math, reading and writing. Some students come to college ready to start out with their major requirements. For others, it has been years since they took algebra, or maybe they simply missed out in high school because they didn't recognize their own potential. In any case, our goal is to make sure that each student's skills are strong enough to compete in Oregon State University courses that require more math, reading or writing.

Living-Learning Communities (LLC)

EOP is proud to partner with University Housing & Dining Services and Diversity & Cultural Engagement to offer two living-learning communities that offer students the opportunity to form community and explore cultural identity. The munk-skukum Indigenous LLC connects students with a shared interest in centering Indigenous people and learning about the lands which they will reside. The Nia LLC connects students with a shared interest in centering Black people and people of the African diaspora and understanding what it means to be Black and African American in Oregon and at Oregon State University.
